100TH ANNIVERSARY COUNTDOWN:
Gailes Golf Club — Brisbane Australia
Parents in search of a club to take their children or young golfers inspired to take up the game will find Gailes an excellent choice.
The club’s teaching professional, Brent Barlow, is very approachable and renowned for his patient approach. Weekly junior clinics are offered 32 weeks of the year in four blocks to coincide with the school term.
Held on Saturday mornings, there are three groups based on age and ability. While the high-fliers are given every encouragement, no one is left behind and everyone is given a good grounding in the basics. Brent is confident of achieving two things: turning entry level kids into good players and inspiring a passion for golf in young people that can lead to a lifetime’s enjoyment of the game.
Parents can take their children along and pay for just a single taster session to see if their youngsters have an aptitude for the game.
From there, it is possible to continue on a weekly see-how-they-go basis or subscribe for the full season, which also includes membership of Gailes.
The club has made membership fees extremely attractive to juniors and also offers a reduced intermediate membership fee for young adults aged between 18 and 25 to ease the transition into full membership.
